About Optimum Nutrition’s Creatine
Creatine is one of the most popular, and also most clinically studied sports supplements available. It can be naturally found in your body and is responsible for producing energy during sudden high energy expenditure, such as heavy lifting or sprints. It’s most popularly taken as a supplement among athletes and bodybuilders alike to help increase muscular gains, enhance strength, and raise overall performance output.
One Ingredient
Developed by AlzChem AG in Germany, CreaPure is the purest form of creatine available. It’s made up of 99.9% creatine monohydrate, making it arguably the most clinically effective form to date. Furthermore, CreaPure is one of the most highly researched ingredients for lab safety and efficacy – ever. We found it helped promote increased strength, muscle growth, and power output during our workout sessions.
More Muscle
CreaPure contains a high concentration of reserve molecules high in energy known as phosphocreatine. These molecules help replenish your body’s ATP stores faster, enabling you to last longer in the gym, increase your reps in-between sets, and more. We also noticed taking ON’s creatine made our muscles swell out. This is because creatine pulls water from cells, causing them to trigger muscle-protein synthesis.
Stacked Versatility
Optimum Nutrition proclaims their creatine powder is versatile. We have to agree with that statement, and we’ll tell you why. First, we couldn’t find any ‘fluff’ or otherwise unnecessary ingredients. Second, it comes naturally unflavored so you can add it to your pre-workout, BCAAs, or other foodstuffs without having to mix flavors that would normally clash. Lastly, it’s micronized for improved mixability and to help reduce bloating.
Is Creatine Safe To Use?
For the majority of people, absolutely! Most users who take CreaPure’s creatine monohydrate experience a variety of benefits, especially in relation to exercise. Some of these benefits include helping to lean out body mass, accelerated recovery times, increase workload capacity, and boosted levels of nitric oxide resulting in a powerful pump. Moreover, it’s one of the safest forms of creatine monohydrate with a purity of 99.9%!
When & How Do I Take It?
In terms of how much you should take, we’ll be following the official directions. As stated on its label, add 1 rounded teaspoon of the powder to a glass of water filled with 8-12 oz of water. Then, shake up and enjoy. Ideally, the best time to take your creatine would be about 30 minutes to 1 hour before your training session. Although, some people experience better results by taking an additional serving immediately post-workout.
Pros
• Micronized for ultimate mixability
• Award winning supplement brand
• Unflavored for versatility
• Only has CreaPure Creatine
• Zero unncessary ingredients
• Wallet friendly price
Cons
• Tastes slightly bitter alone
Where Can I Get It?
ON’s Micronized Creatine can be easily obtained through Amazon. It’s currently offered in five individual sizes. Each size offers its own price and amount of servings. We’ve gone ahead and listed them below.
Currently Available Options:
- 150g – $6, 28 servings
- 300g – $16, 57 servings
- 600g – $15, 114 servings – Best choice
- 1,200g – $28, 228 servings
- 2,000g – $40, 380 servings
We believe the 600-gram version is the best choice for a few reasons. For starters, it’s formulated provide nearly 4 months of continual, daily use. Keep in mind, each of its 114 servings delivers 5-grams of clinically dosed CreaPure. So, unless you plan on sharing, we suggest first trying the 600g version for its better value.
How Does It Taste?
Simply put, quite bitter. Although considering there are no ‘other’ ingredients, or artificial sweeteners, flavors, and dyes, this can be expected. While some users may perceive this as an issue, we found it’s actually quite the opposite. See, Optimum Nutrition doesn’t add any flavor-enhancing ingredients because it’s designed to be versatile. Essentially, it’s meant to be taken with other supplements and foodstuffs to reduce flavor clash.
How Well Does It Mix?
Every gram of micronized powder contained in Optimum Nutrition’s Creatine left us impressed with how easy to mix it was. If you didn’t know, micronization is a process used to quite literally make particles smaller. Essentially, this allows the creatine to bind together with the water more efficiently and also stay suspended in liquid much longer than non-micronized powder.
The Takeaway
Overall, Optimum Nutrition delighted us on a multitude of fronts. We noticed a significant increase in overall muscular gains and even managed to lean out a bit. Also, achieving a full recovery was significantly faster than, say, the time needed to recover when we weren’t taking it. And lastly, it was truly great to see zero added ingredients. Pair that with its excellent price point and you’re in for a real treat.
